"The other day, I was somewhere terribly glamorous - Brent Cross, I think it was - and a guy came up to me and said, 'I've blown your cover'."
Matthew MacFadyen, Spooks

Planet Roz

The aim of this site is to open a small door into my life (without giving too much away), and hopefully I'll have passed on some small measure of encouragement, love, knowledge, frivolity, or indeed, nonsense, depending, of course, on your viewpoint.

Feel free to join the discussion on the blog.

About Me

My name is Rosaline [pronounced 'Roz-a-lin'], but there are some that call me Ros, or Roz, and Roz the Poz, and Roz Poz.

Some have called me Rosie [pronounced 'Rozzie'], or Ms Daniel.

One calls me Margarita, to which I reply Giannino, while another calls me Fuzzy.

Yet another calls me Rozzie-Roz, or Rozzity-Roz, along with another, who calls me Rozzi-Roz, because that's what they do in Philadelphia. And then there's another who called me Rozzi-Roz and tried to talk like me, but she just sounds like she's eating hot chips and is burning her mouth, but I would laugh anyway.

And yet another called me Rosamund, and still yet another calls me Poz-Roz, which is short for Positively Roz.

And in Nigeria they call me Rose, because that's what I tell them to call me, because it's easier that way. At least it's better than Rose-line.

Hobbies

I really need to take the guitar more seriously. I have to learn those bloody barre chords and different strum patterns.

I like to read, but it takes me months to finish a book—literally. My daily read is The Holy Bible.

I love music, but don't get as much time to be a total music fanatic as I was in my school days. I'm totally stuck in the '80s and early '90s, and rather proud of it too.

Obviously not 80s music but I've been listening to Yes by Coldplay over and over again in my car for the past two days. I just love the melancholy violins running through the whole song, and of course can identify with most of the song. I haven't really given the Chinese sleep chant a listen yet, but will try soon. I also recently heard Young by Nickel Creek and loved it. Again those guitars.

My favourite reality show on American TV is The Amazing Race. I also love Survivor.

I think Edward Norton is a brilliant actor, and Robert Carlyle is simply magnificent too. Both of them are extremely versatile, and make you believe in the make believe (yes Adam!) I have a soft spot for Ed Harris — the whole bald thing drives me crazy. I also love Samantha Morton (she made a lasting impression on Band of Gold), and Kristin Scott-Thomas makes me smile.

I love playing my guitar, though I need to get cracking with those barre chords. I also love watching films, live music, the theatre, hula hoops (the crisps) and star bars (the chocolate).

The first concert I went to was Paul Young in Portsmouth, England. Subsequent ones include King, (get your boots on!) also in Portsmouth, Jean-Jacques Goldman in Lomé, Togo, Paul Weller in London, Washington, D.C. and New York City, and Dave Matthews Band every Summer for ages with Sandra.

The first LP I bought was A Tribute to ABBA. It wasn't actually them singing, but it was still good. Still can remember all the words to those ABBA songs.

I've only ever bought one VHS film and that's American History X. My first self-bought DVD is Nowhere in Africa, a delightful German film, based on a true story.

Quirks

Yes, most people would say I am a quiet person. " ... Maybe it's a holdover from growing up in England, and shutting up unless you have something interesting to say!" — Desson Thomson (formerly Desson Howe, film critic with The Washington Post).

When I lived in the States my friend Sandra and I would go to a Dave Matthews Band concert every Summer. 2006 is the first Summer we didn't go.

I can't help it but I hate bad spelling, Fox 5's Lark McCarthy's sing-song voice and the American mispronunciation of the French word "femme". Come to think of it, the American mispronunciation of a lot of words really gets up my nose.

I have a thing for bald men. If you're bald, you're like halfway there with me. Men who have embraced their lack of hair by shaving it off are really sexy. I have no idea where this came from with me, as a few years ago I didn't think like this. However, now for the most part, I mostly notice bald men, and they are everywhere believe me. I mentioned this to my friend Sarah a few years ago, and she was like "oh, you mean skinheads? how can you be into the neo-Nazi look?", but no, not skinheads. If you don't get it, you don't get it!

People have said I look like my friend Bukie. In some pictures I can now see the resemblance. Strangers have mistaken me for Sonia Lannaman and Cheryl Swoops. Why, I don't know. I never even knew who Cheryl Swoops was when I was first mistaken for her. I have also been told I look like Condoleeza Rice, which is a big fat lie!

I secretly want to be a rock star.

If I could do it all over again, I think I'd like to work for MI-5.

I'm very particular, to the point of being anal--I just can't help it. If I say something to you and then later (or soon after--it doesn't matter) realise that some snippet of information was wrong, it bothers me a great deal that you don't have the correct information. You meanwhile have probably forgotten what I said, but I tend to dwell on it.
